نبذة نيل وفرات:This book on phonetics has come into existence in light of the need for an introductory book that suits the level and needs of university students who are exposed to a phonetics course for the first time. It is designed to focus on the basics of phonetics. Bearing in ...mind that phonetics is so wide and has many branches.
This book, in ten chapters, has discussed these topics in this order: phonetics branches, speech organs, how to describe a speech sound, English consonants, English vowels, phonemes, phonemic distribution, pronunciation rules, transcription, and finally suprasegmentals. Almost after every sub-heading in every chapter, one exercise or more appear, which makes the total reach about 200 exercises. There is also a summary after every chapter.
At the end of the book, there are an answer key to the exercises, a list of abbreviations, a list of the symbols used in the book, a list of the English phonemes, a list of the Arabic phonemes, and the IPA symbols. There is also a subject index. All these appendixes, lists, and indexes are essential to the proper usage of this book. The book has presented American English, rather than British English, and has used American symbols in preference to IPA or British symbols, for the purpose of easiness.نبذة الناشر:This is a book on English vowels, consonants, syllables, and the English phonological system.
