نبذة الناشر:Translation is nowadays a well-established discipline and respectful profession that has principles, values and standards of its own, it has a number of skills required to be acquired to be acquired by translators and students of translation prior to, or during the process of translating to be qualified to be ...good translators.
The first INTRODUCTORY CHAPTER sets out the main line of theoretical argument of the whole book about the huge importance of translation skills of all types for translation as a discipline and a profession, as much as for translation students as well as professional translators. A short purview of the major three types of these skills is provided, alongside with other basic issues in the field of translation, including translation as a profession, translation as a discipline, professionalism of translation, ethics in translation and how to develop translation skills of all types.
Chief among the basic skills to be acquired and developed before starting translating in the first place are “Translational Language skills” (CHAPTERS 2&3), including reading, writing, comprehension, grammatical, lexical, stylistic, phonological and pragmatic skills, Next, “Translation Skills” (CHAPTER 4&5) are investigated exhaustively, they include specialist skills of translation like analytical, methodological, development and revising dictionary use, cultural, translation methods, specialization and translation criticism skills. The third and final group is “Non-translational General skills” (CHAPTER 6) that relate to translation more indirectly than directly. Therefore, they are helpful to the professional translator. Among these skills are cognitive, general knowledge, curiosity, argument, inductive and deductive reasoning, personal, ideological computer, cloud-based networking cloud computing and marketing skills.
The panoramic investigation of the three groups of translation skills confirms that they are interrelated in the overall process of translation. Although some are more essential (those of the first two groups) than the others (those of the third group), professional translators are careful to acquire, refine and develop them, hence, updating themselves with the latest skills, sharpening their experience in translation theory and practice.
