نبذة الناشر: Teaching Literature: A Task-based Approach consists of a number of selected literary works: short stories, plays and poems. The first section consists of ten short stories whereas the second one includes three short plays. Finally, the third section presents ten poems written by different prominent poets. All sections include ...the primary text along with related activities that cover the three stages of reading: pre-reading, reading, and post-reading. At the end of the activities of each literary text, we included a section on language exercises that aims at enhancing students’ linguistic competence and performance, and developing their awareness of the relationship between linguistics and literature, which is the best manifestation of language. This book can be used for teaching introductory literature courses to university college students majoring in English language and literature. It can also be used for students at certain high schools. The book aims at filling a gap in the methodology of teaching literature. The books available in this field are either theoretical, or when they are practical, they fail to present the activities in a coherent and comprehensive manner. This book is intended to help instructors develop a clear idea on how to explore the literary work in its literal, stylistic and linguistic aspects. It also aims at helping instructors to shift away from the traditional methodology of teaching literature that is primarily based on lecturing, to a more student-centered approach in which students perform tasks either individually or in groups, depending on the outcome that the instructor wants them to accomplish. These activities, however, are not intended to take away from the instructors the possibility of mini-lecturing whereby they help students to make connections, and engage the entire class in substantial class discussions. In fact, giving the students the opportunity to work on these activities will ensure better quality class discussions, and will help students to be more contributive and more open to new ideas. Ultimately, students will be ready to see the complexity of the literary work as they will move away from simplistic interpretations that do not reflect the complexity of literary works. إقرأ المزيد
