نبذة نيل وفرات:This study is an attempt to investigate child rearing practices used by Lebanese parents in reinforcing such values as courage, conformity, honesty, obedience, self-control, sharing, achievement, cleanliness, concern for others, independence and manners in their 3-6 year-old children. This sample consisted of 246 Lebanese mothers representing Moslems and Christians ...living in urban and rural areas.
To investigate the process through which children are socialized, mothers were asked how they handled their children’s reactions in certain situations representing the above stated values. Data were collected through personal interviews.
The results revealed that mothers in general reported the use of authoritarian methods which included corporal punishment, threats, withdrawal of love and deprivation. Democratic and permissive techniques were used to a lesser extent. The three variables that had the highest bearing on the type of discipline used were mother’s education, social class and family size. More educated mothers tended to explore new approaches to socialization, while less educated mothers representing a lower social class resorted to traditionally accepted authoritarian techniques. إقرأ المزيد
