نبذة الناشر:The research entitled “Christian Symbols and Rituals Engraved on Jewelry” raises the question of how the symbols have emerged from an environment that had strong pagan beliefs, as the Greek and Romanian civilizations, and how these symbols have been affected by the accompanied rituals. The shapes of the symbols have ...remained the same even after the spread of Christianity, but with different meanings and significances to cope with the religious spirit, and then they have developed to become purely Christian symbols.
The problematic of this research lies in the continuity of some rituals associated with the Greek and Romanian symbols in being attached to Christian symbols in order to carry the status of religious sanctity, like the adoption of some human symbols represented by the hand symbolism, ancient celestial symbols (such as the sun and the moon) as a symbol of light and halo that was accompanying the emperors of those civilizations ,animal symbols as oblations and sacrifices, like the bull and the ewes, despite the difference of some of their meanings and significances, they have continued to be present in Christianity), as well as the symbolism of peacock that represents the eternity and glory , and dragon as a symbol of evilness ,among the plant symbols there is the “tree of life” which symbolizes the cross made of wood and vine representing the pride trophy ,nature symbols, like water and cloud, and their connection to baptism and cleansing, developed religious symbols like the cross symbolism and its significance for the human relation with the sky and earth, and the revival and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and its influence by the four directions to spread Christianity all over the world after Jesus Christ through his disciples and believers, and other symbols that I tackle in the context of this research.
The importance of this research lies in its distinction among the previous researches of documenting the meanings and significances of symbols engraved on jewelry. I show the reader how the symbol has been inherited from earlier civilizations, after I have examined it in the major East-West museums.
I define the researchers who are interested in studying the Christian symbols that have the same shape of those engraved on metals and jewelry. I also demonstrate how these symbols have developed to become purely Christian symbols by explaining the image of each symbol separately.
I explain the importance of symbols’ significances and how they are affected by the rituals of their environment and the different meanings between the East and West.
The goal of this research is highlighting the most important documented Christian symbols, through history, that were engraved on metals and have helped the spreading of Christianity in order to make the believers clinging to its symbols, in addition to the accompanied rituals. This led to their continuity throughout hundreds of centuries till today. إقرأ المزيد
