نبذة الناشر:Oxidative stress is a process caused by accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in plant tissues. Under non stressful condition, there is equilibrium between pro-oxidants and antioxidants in plant cells. Many biotic and abiotic stresses increased production of toxic reactive oxygen species and caused oxidative injury. The degree of tolerance ...to oxidative stress varies widely between plant species. Plants exhibit different mechanisms by which they can tolerate biotic and abiotic stresses induced oxidative injury. The antioxidant defensive system of plants plays a central role in the resistance mechanisms of plants to oxidative injury Plants subjected to harmful abiotic stress conditions (salinity, drought and water stress) induced oxidative stress and resulted in the production and accumulation of toxic oxygen species such as superoxide radicals (O2.-), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and hydroxyl radical The active oxygen species produced during stress can damage many cellular components including lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids . Oxidative stress can lead to inhibition of the photosynthesis and respiration processes and thus, plant growth.
