نبذة الناشر:Major powers have long sought to pursue their strategic interests in the Arabian Gulf region and since the discovery of oil their engagement has increased in significance and intensity. Moreover, international interest in the region has increased substantially since the cataclysmic events of September 11, 2001, and subsequent tetrrorist attacks ...attributed to the Al-Qaeda organization and its affiliates. By virtue of their power and influence in world affairs and in international forums, the interests in the Arabian Gulf of Russia, France, Germany, the United States and Britain are especially notable. It is often said that when it comes to foreign policy, states have no friends, only interests. The present day dynamics of the Gulf region clearly demonstrate this dictum.
To discuss these and other issues pertinent to international involvement in the Arabian Gulf region, the Emirates Center of Strategic Studies and Reasearch (ECSSR) hosted a symposium entiled International Interests in the Gulf Region, in Abu Dhabi, from march 15-16, 2004. Specialists in the field of international politics were invited to share their understanding of the involvement of these five influential powers in the region. This volume represents an overview of the policies of Russia, France, Germany, the United States and Britain vis-a-vis the Arabian Gulf. It considers the various interests of these states in security, energy, social development, commerce and trade, as well as in the international war against terrorism, and provides a valuable and timely source of reference for readers who wish to develop a greater understanding of these dynamics. إقرأ المزيد
