نبذة نيل وفرات:The main purpose, of this work, is to present a general survey of our current knowledge of Medieval Arabic Water-Clocks. Much of this data is already available in one form r another but not all of it is readily accessible, and it is felt that this book will fill ...a gap for historians and general readers alike, particularly since it includes the results of recent research.
In order to place the Arabic clocks in their historical setting chapter, on Pre-Islamic and European Water-Clocks are included. Information about the several treatises and their author is given in the appropriate chapters, but brief details are given below as reference data.

1- The book of Acchimede on the construction of Water-Clocks.
Description of a monumental Water-Clock-Date and authorship are unknown. It is conjectured that its origin is Greek with additional by Arabic Writers. All known manuscripts are in Arabic.
An important, acknowledged source for Inter Arabic Writers.

2- The book of secrets about the Results of Thoughts
A treatise is existing in a unique Arabic Version. Dealing with Water-Clocks and other devices, its authorship is tentatively ascribed to a certain Ibn Khalaf al-Muradi, who flourished in Andalvsia in the 5th / 11th century.

3- The book of the Balance of Wisdom
By Abd al-Rhman al-Khazini, composed in Marw in Khurasan in 515/112/-22. There is an Arabic edition base upon several manuscript copies.
This is one of the most remarkable of physics of middle Ages. Its last treatise deals with steel yard clepsydras and it is these that are covered by the present work.

4- Book of the construction of clocks and their use
By Ridwan b. Muhammed al-sacati al-Khurasani, composed 600/1203. The treatise there are two known manuscript copies, describes the monumental Water-Clock built by Ridwans fathe at the the jayrun gate in Damascus.

5- The book of knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices
By Ibn al-Razzaz al-Jazari. Composed in Diyar Baker in 602-1206, the treatise exists in a number of manuscripts. The first of this six categories describes six Water-Clocks and four candle clocks.
