Our project, Lahza, sought to offer children in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon the chance to express themselves in respect to their rights, health, education and opportunities for the future.
Children in the Arab world, especially those living in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, face daily hardships that seriously impact ...their lives and futures. Most Palestinian children in Lebanon live in miserable condition in 12 refugee camps, totally isolated from Lebanese society. The children live in densely populated shantytowns in an environment that is unhealthy socially, physically and psychologically.
A group of Lebanese professional and amateur photographers at Zakira launched a project called Lahza, or “Glimpse.” We wanted Lahza to be the first project that our organization undertakes.
The project offered these children the opportunity to convey through photographs the reality of the camps through their eyes. It allowed them to express themselves and to learn photography as means of communication in addition to acquiring professional skills through training that could improve their living conditions.
