Futures studies has emerged as a field of knowledge that draws on advances in scientific research across disciplines. Indeed, a glance at the agendas and projects of laboratories around the world makes clear that humanity is approaching transformations far deeper than those visible on the surface and at a pace far faster than we might imagine
The future is the only domain in which action and change remain possible. The past cannot be revisited, while the present is already unfolding and its conditions cannot readily be altered. The future, by contrast, is the only dimension of the temporal sequence that remains open to human influence.
Perhaps this is what the physicist Albert Einstein meant when he stated, “I’m more interested in the future than in the past, because the future is where I intend to live. إقرأ المزيد
