She began her career as a radio and TV journalist and also worked as a press assistant in government ministries and in the prime minister's ...office. In 1992 she left journalism to dedicate herself to writing. Abouzeid's fiction has been translated from Arabic into English, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Maltese, French, and Urdu.

Why write a new biography of the Prophet Mohammed? Several biographies about the Prophet Mohammed already exist. The idea came to me in 2005 after the publication of the Danish cartoons of the prophet, as a response to much of the ignorance and prejudice expressed in islamophobia.
This biography of the Prophet Mohammed is the first by a Muslim woman and by a novelist. It is written in English with minimal interpretation and commentary.
