The approach followed in this book is communicative in nature - i.e the lessons are developed around certain functions and /or notions; the grammatical patterns or structures are used in each lesson as needed ...in order to serve in communicating the relevant functions or notions. Because of the nature of this approach, teachers and students will readily expect and notice a variety of grammatical structures in each lesson.
There is one more feature of this book that should be of interest to students and teachers: it is based on recent psycholinguistic findings. The fact is that thinking can enhance the development of language competence and, conversely, linguistic mastery can enhance the development of good thinking - i.e. reasoned and systematic thinking. A considerable portion of the material in this book involves the students in logical thinking and the application of language to it.
The functional approach to language and the thought-provoking exercises should serve as challenging and stimulating factors in the use of this book.
