This book consists of important studies by several specialists on Islamic movements. The analyses focus on the conditions that led to their emergence and the relationships between their thinking and praxis in particular political and social contexts. The studies also discuss the radical and moderate orientations of these movements, highlighting the reasons behind such approaches and their inpact on the current situation in the Arab world.
The authors analyze the origins and influence of Islamic movements within the Arab context. These movements are often described as antagonistic towards democracy and political pluralism, justifying their removal from the public sphere. However, their exclusion has increased tension and instability. Since these movements are considered important political forces, allowing their political participation is a way to avoid conflict. Nevertheless, international and regional transformations have elicited new debate on the prospects for these movements. Their future is of broad relevance, since some stand accused of extremism and terrorism, and a war, whether legal or military, has been declared against them.
